Abstract

In January 2020 there was an inflation of 1.09 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.04. Out of 90 CPI cities, 79 cities experienced inflation and 11 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh by 1.44 percent with CPI of 106.20 and the lowest occurred in Gorontalo by 0.03 percent with CPI of 103.61. While the highest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau by 1.39 percent with CPI of 102.09 and the lowest occurred in Kudus by 0.01 percent with CPI of 103.37.

Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by an increase in most of the expenditure group index, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 3.65 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.37 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.32 percent; health group of 0.05 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0,47 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by 0.89 percent. While the groups that experienced deflation were housing, water, electricity, and household fuel by 0.07 percent; ; transportation group by 0.39 percent; information, communication and financial services group by 0.15 percent; education group by 1.31 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.16 percent.

The January 2020 calendar year inflation rate is 1.09 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (January 2020 against January 2019) is 1.53 percent.

The energy component in January 2020 experienced a deflation of 0.17 percent. The inflation rate of the January 2020 calendar year energy component is -0.17 percent and the year-to-year inflation rate of the energy component (January 2020 to January 2019) is -0.43 percent. The foodstuff component in January 2020 experienced inflation of 4.20 percent. The inflation rate of the foodstuff component of the January 2020 calendar year is 4.20 percent and the inflation rate of the foodstuff component year to year (January 2020 to January 2019) is 1.67 percent.
