To Strengthen Data Governance, BPS-Bangka Tengah Regency Helds a Discussion Regarding SDI Principles

May 27, 2025 | Other Activities

Koba, 27 May 2025  In order to strengthen sectoral data governance that is accurate, integrated, and accountable, BPS-Statistics Bangka Tengah Regency held the 3rd Sectoral Statistics Development with the main focus on the application of the One Data Indonesia (SDI) principle. This activity took place in the BPS-Statistics Bangka Tengah Regency Meeting Room and was attended by representatives from Diskominfo, Dinas Pertanian, Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan, and Bappeda.

This activity became an important discussion space to equalise perceptions and practices related to government data management, especially in applying the four main principles of SDI, namely data standards, metadata, interoperability, and the use of reference codes and master data. One of the main issues raised was that there are still differences in data standards between agencies, although the data concepts used are basically similar. To overcome this, BPS recommends the development of a methodology book that functions like a dictionary, to explain data definitions and concepts uniformly to all users.

The discussion then focused on the issue of metadata, which so far has only included activity and variable metadata, but has not yet reached the level of indicator metadata. This is a big homework that must be resolved together to ensure the readability and interoperability of data as a whole. In terms of interoperability, BPS emphasises that the data produced must be able to be shared electronically between systems, which means that the structure, format and semantics of the data must be consistent and stored in an open format.

Meanwhile, the reference code principle also received special attention. BPS explained that each administrative region has its own unique code that is used in the statistical system, and if regional agencies have started to adopt these codes, such as regional or gender codes, then it shows that the SDI principle has started to be applied. For example, the Agriculture Office of Central Bangka Regency has implemented the reference code in the Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas (FSVA) activity, which is clear evidence of the OPD's seriousness in applying the SDI principle.

At the end of the event, participants were reminded to routinely submit requests for statistical recommendations every year as a form of governance of statistical activities in accordance with procedures. In addition, the ROMANTIK application was also introduced which can be used to facilitate the digitisation process in submitting statistical recommendations and managing related documents.

Through this activity, BPS-Statistics Bangka Tengah Regency hopes that coordination between agencies in data management will be more solid. The implementation of the One Data Indonesia principle is not only a matter of technical data management, but also a strategic effort in supporting development planning and evaluation based on valid and reliable data. The Head of BPS-Statistics Bangka Tengah Regency closed the event by emphasising that standardised and open data is not just an administrative archive, but an important foundation for sustainable and measurable development.
